Craft Supplies Needed
- Felt Balls - 20mm felt balls work great.
- Metal Eye Loop Screws - These give you a loop to attach earring hook to.
- Earrings Backs - We use earring hooks for dangly versions and earring posts for studs.
- Super Glue - This helps you secure the eye loop screw into the felt ball.
- Pliers - To open and close the bottom loops of the earring hooks.
How to Make Felt Ball Earrings
Dangly Felt Ball Earrings
Step 1. Screw a small metal eye loop into the top of a felt ball.
You'll have to push the screw in as you twist so it can go into the dense ball.
Repeat for the second felt ball in the pair.
Step 2. Dab a small amount of super glue where the eye screw meets the felt ball to help hold it in place.
Step 3. Use pliers to open up the bottom loop of an earring hook and attach it to the metal eye loop you screwed into the felt ball.
Close the bottom loop so the earring hook is attached.
Step 4. Repeat for all of the dangly felt ball earrings you are making.
Felt Ball Stud Earrings
For felt ball stud earrings, you don't use metal eye screws or earring hooks.
Instead, you use earring posts that include a flat part to glue the felt ball to, and then an earring back that will secure the earring onto your ear.
Step 1. Hot glue the flat part of the earring stud to the felt ball.
Step 2. Repeat for the other felt ball.
Slide the earring backs onto each post and you're done!
Common Questions
You can buy felt balls in different sizes but my favorite size is 20mm diameter. That is also the most commonly available size. This size is slightly smaller than an inch and is perfect for everything from jewelry and ornaments to garlands and more.
My favorite place to buy 20mm felt balls is on Amazon. I buy a big variety pack with a ton of different colors in it. You can also find felt balls on Etsy or Ebay, and possibly at your local craft store too.
Among the many felt ball crafts you can make, our favorites are: tiny felt ball ornaments, a felt ball garland, felt ball pumpkin earrings, and felt ball acorns.
DIY earrings are fun to make and even more fun to wear.
We've made embroidery tassel earrings, yarn tassel earrings, leather earrings, and mini embroidery hoop earrings, just to name a few!
They are particularly great because you can easily make them in whatever color you choose (or maybe a dozen colors so you have one for every outfit!)
These cute felt ball earrings are no exception - they're simple to make, easy to customize into a dangly version or a stud style, and you can use any colored felt balls you choose.
