Learn how to make a DIY pearl pinecone Christmas tree in this easy step-by-step craft tutorial with photos.
Pinecones look like little trees, so it's only logical to use them to make all kinds of Christmas tree crafts!
We've made mini pinecone Christmas trees with tiny pom poms as ornaments, we've made a medium-sized pom pom pinecone tree, and we have also made a giant pinecone tree with poms as well.
They all turned out wonderful and are very easy to make!
Today, we are going to use fake pearls instead of pom poms to make a pearl pinecone tree that can be used as Christmas decor or just as part of a rustic chic vibe! You can also make a giant version of this pearl pinecone tree too.

Why You'll Love This Craft
- Pinecones are fantastic craft supplies that can be made into so many things. You can collect them from the ground yourself, or buy them from craft stores or online.
- This project is so easy with hardly any skills needed - only the safe use of a hot glue gun! If you can glue pearls to the ends of a pinecone, you can make this craft!
- This is the mid-sized version of a pinecone Christmas tree; similar to the giant pearl pinecone tree we made, as well as the mini pompom pinecone trees we made.
Craft Supplies Needed
- Pinecone - For this project, we are using a mid-sized pinecone that is about 4" tall.
- Faux Pearls - These pearls are a little smaller than ½" in diameter. You want to pick faux pearls that are the appropriate size for the pinecone you are using. Smaller pinecones need smaller pearls, and vice versa.
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue - Used to attach the pearls to the ends of the pinecone!
How to Make a Pearl Pinecone Christmas Tree
Step 1. Put a dab of hot glue onto the end of one of the flat pinecone sections (also called "scales".)
Step 2. Place a pearl into the glue and hold it in place until the glue dries.
Step 3. Repeat the process, gluing pearls around the edges of the pinecone.
Leave some of the sections empty so it doesn't get too cluttered.
Step 4. Once you've glued pearls around the entire pinecone, your pearl pinecone tree is finished!
Common Questions
If you have pine trees in your yard, the best place to get them is outside! (Just make sure to clean the pinecones before you use them for crafts.)
If you don't have access to pine trees, or if the pinecones near you are smaller than you need for this project, you can look for mid-sized pinecones at craft stores, dollar stores, home decor stores, and online retailers. You can also find sellers on eBay and Etsy who are selling pinecones as well.
We made a similar project but we used multi-colored pompoms on the pinecone instead of faux pearls and it turned out great!
You could also use beads, gems, tiny metal bells, small felt balls, wood beads, or any other small object that will fit on the ends of the pinecone.
Pinecones are kind of addicting to make projects with, aren't they??
Some of our favorite pine cone projects are the pinecone wreath we made, this simple pinecone garland, a pinecone person ornament, yarn-wrapped pinecones (you can customize them for any season or holiday) and just painted pinecones as part of your decor!
You can make these pinecone pearl trees using large pearls like we did here or smaller versions. Either would look great.
We made a smaller, daintier version as a pearl pinecone ornament using a small pinecone and tiny pearls, and that turned out beautiful too.
