Learn how to make three types of easy, beautiful DIY paper flowers out of recycled toilet paper rolls in this craft tutorial.
Lately, we've been diving into crafts made with toilet paper rolls.
We made Emotion Buddies to help preschoolers learn to talk about their feelings, and we turned toilet paper tubes into cute, quirky animals.
With scissors, hot glue and string, we created a beautiful rustic tassel garland; one that is actually hanging up in my house right now!
And today, we're going to continue with the toilet paper roll crafts and make three different versions of paper flowers using only toilet paper rolls, scissors, and hot glue!
You'll be able to make cute Mother's Day crafts with them if you want or turn them into a beautiful toilet paper flower garland!

DIY Paper Flowers Made Out of Toilet Paper Rolls
DIY Petal Flowers:
Step 1. Take one toilet paper tube and press it flat.
This takes the usual circle shape of the tube and makes it eye-shaped, and ready for making petals!
Step 2. Using scissors, cut the flattened toilet paper roll into equal sections.
It doesn't matter how thick you cut the sections; you just want to make sure they are all roughly equally thick.
These sections are about ¾" wide.
Step 3. Put hot glue at the base of one petal - (one flattened section of the toilet paper roll.)
Step 4. Press another petal to it and hold until the glue dries.
Step 5. Continue hot gluing petals onto the flower until you've completed your 5-petal flower.
Step 6. If you want to, you can hot glue a felt ball to the center of the flower to add a little color. Or you can leave it rustic!
DIY Mini Flower:
Step 7. Fold one section of a toilet paper tube in half, pinching along the fold to crease it.
Open it back up and put a dab of hot glue down near the crease of the fold.
Step 8. Fold it again and pinch where the glue is until dry.
Step 9. Once the glue is dry, you can press down on the top and bottom to "fluff" the double leaf shape open.
Step 10. Repeat the same folding, gluing, and fluffing process on all of the sections of the toilet paper tube.
When you're done, you should have at least 5 double-leaf shapes.
Step 11. Put hot glue at the base of one petal, and press a second one to it. Let dry.
Step 12. Continue gluing the sections together until you have a 5-petal flower.
DIY Rosette:
Step 13. Cut a toilet paper tube open, into a rectangle.
Step 14. Round the four corners.
Step 15. Starting on the outside edge of the toilet paper tube rectangle, cut a spiral in toward the center.
Step 16. Beginning in the center of the spiral, slowly rotate the cardboard in a circle into a rosette shape, hot gluing every centimeter or so to anchor as you go.
Keep turning the rosette and gluing along the way.
Step 17. Once you reach the end of the cardboard spiral, make sure it's glued well enough to secure it. You don't want it to start to unravel.
You can hold it in place while the glue dries, or use a clothespin like I did to keep it secure until it's dry.
Step 18. Once the rolled rosette is dry, you're finished!
Common Questions
Yes, you sure can! The tubes inside paper towels and toilet paper are often the same, just different lengths. Since you are cutting the tubes into small sections, you can use both toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls for these projects!
Yes, these flowers can definitely be a kids' craft idea! There are few supplies needed, and as long as the child can safely use a hot glue gun, they can make these flowers on their own. If the child is too young to operate a glue gun solo, they can still help you make the flowers, as long as you do the part with the hot glue.
Bonus Pro Tip: I love these silicone fingertip protectors when working with kids and hot glue. It helps give an added layer of safety when young kids are working around a hot glue gun.
You can string a handful of paper flowers together to make a DIY toilet paper flower garland, or you can hot glue them to sticks and make little DIY flower pots. You can also turn them into paper flower ornaments, or just use them in gift wrap or decor on a shelf!
DIY paper flowers are a favorite of mine.
They are easy to make and can be used for embellishing gift wrap or turned into fun crafts like paper flower Christmas tree ornaments.
The same concepts can also be used with fabric and turned into beautiful fabric flowers.
With the most basic of craft supplies (scissors and hot glue!), you can easily turn toilet paper rolls into pretty DIY paper flowers.
No one will believe they're made with recycled toilet paper tubes!
