LEARN HOW TO MAKE THREE TYPES OF EASY, BEAUTIFUL DIY PAPER FLOWERS OUT OF RECYCLED TOILET PAPER ROLLS!
Lately, we've been diving into crafts made with toilet paper rolls.
We made Emotion Buddies to help preschoolers learn to talk about their feelings, and we turned toilet paper tubes into cute, quirky animals.
With scissors, hot glue and string, we created a beautiful rustic tassel garland; one that is actually hanging up in my house right now!
And today, we're going to continue with the toilet paper roll crafts and make three different versions of paper flowers using only toilet paper rolls, scissors, and hot glue!
You'll be able to make cute Mother's Day crafts with them if you want or turn them into a beautiful toilet paper flower garland.
Here's how to make them!
DIY Paper Flowers Made Out of Toilet Paper Rolls
Step 1. Gather Supplies.
Supplies Needed:
- Toilet Paper Rolls
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue
- Optional: Felt Balls - 20mm
Flower 1: DIY Petal Flower Made With Toilet Paper Rolls:
Step 2. Flatten a toilet paper tube to create an eye-shape.
Take one toilet paper tube and press it flat.
This takes the usual circle shape of the tube and makes it eye-shaped, and ready for making petals!
Step 3. Cut toilet paper tube into 6 equal sections.
Using scissors, cut the flattened toilet paper roll into 6 equal sections.
I initially planned to make the flower have 6 petals but later realized that 5 looked better. (Aren't there rules about odd numbers in nature?)
Instead, I ended up using the 6th section later for a different flower.
Step 4. Hot glue petals together to create a flower.
Put hot glue at the base of one flattened section of the toilet paper roll (one petal.)
Press another petal to it and hold until the glue dries.
Step 5. Continue adding petals until flower is complete.
Continue with the same process of adding petals until you've completed your 5-petal flower.
Step 6. Add an optional felt ball to the center of your flower.
If you want to, you can hot glue a felt ball to the center of the flower to add a little color.
Or you can leave it rustic!
This flower is the biggest of the three we will make.
It's so easy, but looks way more complicated than it is!
Flower 2: DIY Mini Flower Made With Toilet Paper Rolls
Step 2. Cut a toilet paper roll into 6 equal sections.
Just like with the petal flower, flatten the toilet paper roll and cut it into 6 equal sections.
We will be folding the sections in half for this flower.
Step 3. Fold one section in half, put dab of glue in the fold, pinch and let dry to create a double-leaf shape.
Fold one section of toilet paper tube in half, pinching along the fold.
Open it back up and put a dab of hot glue down near the crease of the fold.
Fold it again and pinch where the glue is until dry.
Once the glue is dry, you can press down at the same time on the top and bottom to "fluff" the double leaf shape open.
Step 4. Repeat the same process to turn all six sections of the toilet paper roll into double-leaf shapes.
Repeat the same folding, gluing, fluffing process on all of the sections of the toilet paper tube.
When you're done, you should have 6 little double-leaf shapes.
(I initially planned to make a 6-petal flower here too. But I quickly realized 5 petals worked better and the 6th became a leaf!)
Step 5. Hot glue the base of the petals together.
Put hot glue at the base of one petal, and press a second one to it. Let dry.
Step 6. Repeat until you have a 5-section flower. Save 6th section as a leaf.
Continue gluing the sections together until you have a 5-petal flower.
The 6th petal serves as a cute leaf accent.
Flower 3: DIY Rosette made with Toilet Paper Rolls
Step 2. Cut toilet paper roll open, and round out the edges.
Cut a toilet paper tube open, into a rectangle.
Round the four corners.
Step 3. Staring on the outside, cut a spiral toward the center of the rectangle.
Starting on the outside edge of the toilet paper tube rectangle, cut a spiral in toward the center.
Step 4. Beginning with the center, rotate and hot glue spiral to make a rosette shape.
Beginning in the center of the spiral, slowly rotate the cardboard in a circle into a rosette shape, hot gluing every centimeter or so to anchor as you go.
Keep turning the rosette and gluing along the way.
Step 5. Once rosette is complete, hot glue end and secure while it dries.
Once you reach the end of the cardboard spiral, make sure it's glued well enough to secure it.
You don't want it to start to unravel.
You can hold it in place while the glue dries, or use a clothes pin like I did to keep it secure until it's dry.
Step 6. Add a folded double-leaf and you're done!
Once the rolled rosette is dry, add a folded double-leaf like we made in the 2nd flower tutorial, and you're finished!
DIY paper flowers are a favorite of mine.
They are easy to make and can be used for embellishing gift wrap or turned into fun crafts like paper flower Christmas tree ornaments.
The same concepts can also be used with fabric and turned into beautiful fabric flowers.
With the most basic of craft supplies (scissors and hot glue!), you can easily turn toilet paper rolls into pretty DIY paper flowers.
No one will believe they're made with recycled toilet paper tubes!

Good thing for kids to do instead of video games and watching iPads all day long . Making something out of everyday things makes their minds work !
