How to Make Toilet Paper Flower Ornaments
We are going to use the same toilet paper roll flower tutorials we used here to make these ornaments.
Step 1. Flatten the cardboard tube from inside of a toilet paper or paper towel roll.
Cut equal sections that are roughly ½" wide, or slightly less.
Step 2. These sections of toilet paper tubes are going to be the flower petals.
Step 3. Begin by putting a dab of hot glue near one end of a petal.
Step 4. Line another petal up to the first and pinch the ends together until the glue dries.
Step 5. Repeat this same procedure for as many flower petals as you want your flower to have.
The flower in this photo has 6 cardboard petals.
Step 6. You can glue more petals together than the 6 we showed previously.
This flower has 10 petals.
Step 7. The toilet paper flower in the photo below has 14 paper petals.
As you can see, the number of petals changes the look of the flower.
Step 8. If you want to make a smaller version of the petal flower flower, cut sections of toilet paper rolls like you did in steps 1 and 2 above.
Then fold the cardboard section in half.
Step 9. Put a dab of hot glue inside the folded petal to help keep it folded.
Step 10. This creates two petals for a smaller version of the toilet paper flower.
Step 11. Hot glue petals together the same as you did before, by adding a dab of hot glue to the base and pressing another petal to it.
Step 12. Continue to add sections of petals until your flower has the desired number of total petals.
The cardboard flower below has 14 total petals or 7 folded 2-petal sections.
Step 13. Use a single-hole punch to make a hole at the end of one flower petal.
Step 14. Thread a section of twine through the hole as a hanging string and tie a knot at the end to form a loop.
Trim off any extra twine from the knot.
Your toilet paper flower ornaments are done!
Common Questions
Yes! You can use the cardboard tubes from inside toilet paper rolls and rolls of paper towels. You could possibly even use the cardboard tubes that come inside wrapping paper, as long as it's flexible cardboard that you can flatted to make a petal shape. You'll be cutting the tubes into sections, so once you cut them into even sections, you probably won't even be able to tell where the cardboard tubes came from!
That depends! You can choose how many flower petals to use depending on which version of the flower ornaments you like best. The more petals you add, the more dense the petals look. And you can either make a large version, or a smaller version by folding the cardboard petals in half first. You get to pick!
They are amazing, aren't they? You can make a lovely toilet paper flower garland that looks great at any season, and you could even turn them into faux potted plants like we did in this toilet paper flower pot tutorial.
These ornaments are so humble and beautiful in their simplicity, and in their origin too - they came from the parts of toilet paper and paper towel rolls that everyone throws away (or recycles)!
Toilet paper roll flower ornaments are easy to make, even for kids, and they can be hung as is or decorated with paint or other embellishments. You can even string a handful of flowers together to make a toilet paper tube flower garland!
