How to Make Drinking Straw Star Ornaments

Handmade ornaments for the Christmas tree are some of our favorite holiday crafts.

They're often fast and easy to make, require just a few affordable supplies, and look amazing on the tree! Plus, you get to enjoy them the whole holiday season.

We have made star ornaments out of sticks, and we have wrapped sticks in embroidery floss and made those into DIY star ornaments.

Today, we are adding another ornament to the mix - this time, we are using drinking straws, twine and hot glue to make a beautiful drinking straw star ornament!

Here's how to make it!

How to Make Drinking Straw Star Ornaments

Step 1. Gather Supplies

Supplies Needed:

• Drinking Straws - mine are paper straws from the Dollar Tree, but you can make these with any type of straw.
• Twine
• Scissors
• Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Step 2. Cut straws in half to make a small ornament-sized star.

You'll need 5 straw sections to make a star.

Step 3. Thread 5 sections of straw onto a long piece of twine.

Step 4. Begin to position the straw sections into a star.

For the fifth section to complete the star, you can either put it on the front of the star or like we did below, put it on the back of the star.

It doesn't really matter - whatever you decide is fine.

Step 5. Tie the twine at the top of the star and carefully tighten.

This will remove any slack in the twine and help your straw star-shape form.

Step 6. Now that you see where the straws overlap, you can put a tiny dab of hot glue where each straw touches to help secure the star.

Step 7. Tie a knot at the top of the twine to form a hanging loop, and trim off any extra.

Your straw star ornament is done!

You can also make this same type of star using straws you have not cut. This makes a large star; more of a wall hanging than an ornament.

You can also experiment and cut a straw into thirds to make an even smaller star ornament.

Use the same method to create the star, regardless of how big your straws are!

These cute star ornaments are made with paper drinking straws, so they are eco-friendly.

They are easy and fun to make, and pack a big punch on the Christmas tree!

Pair them with tiny acorn cap ornaments, felt ball ornaments, or felt ball acorns to complete your decor!
