Step 2. Use the heart template to cut out hearts from felt.

You can trace the heart shape onto the felt with a pencil and then cut the hearts out.

Or, you can carefully hold the heart in place while you cut around it.

PRO TIP: You will likely be able to double up the felt and cut out two hearts at once.

    Common Questions

Where is the best place to buy felt?

You can buy felt at any craft store or online retailer like Amazon. It comes in pre-cut rectangles or you can buy it off the bolt in the fabric section.

Cheaper felt is usually stiff, rough, and more rigid. Higher-end felt is softer and more pliable.

Pick whatever colors you like best for your projects!

What is the best hanging string for this garland?

I love using twine as the hanging strings for almost all of my garlands because I love the rustic look of it, and it pairs well with everything from felt to felt balls, to yarn and book pages. Twine also comes in varying thicknesses which is helpful because different thicknesses work better depending on the type of garland. But if you don't want to use twine, you can use embroidery floss, Baker's Twine, or cotton string. Or you can use yarn!

I want to layer this garland on my mantel. What other garlands can I use to layer with it?

Some of our other favorite garlands are a felt ball garland, a Valentine's Day book page banner, a yarn tassel garland, and a yarn-wrapped heart garland. Any of those would work great layered with this felt heart garland!

DIY Valentine’s Day decorations do not have to be complicated or fancy.

Chances are you already have felt in your craft stash, so you are probably ready to make this garland right now!

You could also make this garland using paper hearts, or using a different kind of string like embroidery floss, yarn, or baker’s twine too.

It’s an easy, fast Valentine craft that is fun for the kids to join in on too!
