Craft Supplies Needed
- Tissue Paper - I bought mine at Dollar Tree in a pastel multi-pack, but you can buy it at any big box store or craft store!
- Scissors - To cut the tissue paper into smaller sections, and to cut the fringe in the tassel.
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue - You can also use Tacky Glue or Elmer's if you don't want the tissue paper to discolor from the hot glue's heat.
- Twine - This is my choice of hanging string but if you don't like the rustic look, you could use cotton string, thin rope, or yarn!
How to Make a Tissue Paper Tassel Garland
Step 1. Use our tissue paper tassel tutorial to cut half-strips of tissue paper into fringe, in preparation for rolling them into tassels.
Cut small sections of twine that are about 2" long. You'll need one piece of twine per tassel.
The twine will form a hanging loop at the top of each tissue paper tassel.
Step 2. Proceed following the tissue paper tassel tutorial showing how to glue and roll the tassels up, except you will add the twine hanging loop to the top of the tassel before you begin rolling up the fringe.
Step 3. Repeat with as many tassels in as many colors as you want for your garland.
Step 4. Cut a long piece of twine that will be the length of your finished garland.
Thread the tassels onto the long piece of twine by the hanging loops, in the color order you prefer, and tie loops at the ends of the twine.
Your tissue paper tassel garland is done and ready to hang!
Common Questions
You can find tissue paper at craft stores, dollar stores, or at any big box store in the gift wrap section! You can also save the tissue paper when you get gifts; smooth out the wrinkles, fold it up, and save it for future gift wrapping or for crafts like these!
It depends on how close together you want your tassels to be. I used 6 tissue paper tassels (three in each color) for my small mantel's garland. If you make a garland and don't like how sparse it looks, you can always make a few more and add them to your garland so the tassels will be closer together!
We have made paper tassels that could work in a garland, and we have made toilet paper tassel garlands. You can also make fabric tassels into a garland, and of course, yarn tassels make lovely garlands as well.
As you hang up the garland, you can space out the tassels to your preference.
If you want a denser garland, you can make and add more tassels.
This DIY tissue paper tassel garland is super easy to make and can be made using any color of tissue paper.
You can use red and green to make a Christmas garland, or white and blue for the post-holiday winter season.
This pink and purple version works perfectly for Valentine's Day, and pastel colors would look beautiful for springtime and Easter.
You can carry it further with a red, white, and blue version for the 4th of July, and bring it into fall with an orange and black version for Halloween, or a red, orange, and yellow version for autumn.
The sky is the limit!
