Learn three different ways to make blank books with printer paper for kids to write in, draw in, or make books as they explore their imagination!
I remember writing and illustrating stories that I wrote as early as elementary school, and now my own son is doing the exact same thing.
I wanted to give him blank books he could use to create or draw in, so I explored ways to make them.
Here are three different ways to make blank books using printer paper – ranging from the stapler method to three-hole punching, and lastly – sewing the book together!
Let’s take a look!
How to Make Blank Books with Printer Paper for Kids
Step 1. Gather Supplies
Supplies Needed:
- White Printer Paper
- Stapler and Staples
- Three Hole Punch
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Sewing Machine
Book Type 1 – The Stapler Method:
Step 1. Stack the desired number of printer paper sheets neatly in a stack.
Step 2. Staple near the top, middle, and bottom of the book, along the left edge.
Book Type 2 – The Three-Hole Punch and Tie Method:
Step 1. Stack the desired number of printer paper sheets neatly in a stack.
Step 2. Use a three-hole punch and punch three holes along the left side of the papers.
Step 3. Cut three sections of yarn or other string, each approximately 6″ long.
Step 4. Thread one piece of yarn through the middle hole in the stack.
Step 5. Tie the yarn into a knot.
Tie the knot a little bit away from the paper so there’s some slack to allow the pages to turn easily.
If you knot the yarn tightly up against the paper, it will be too tight to turn pages, and the paper will rip.
Step 6. Repeat for all of the remaining holes.
Step 7. Use scissors to trim the extra yarn to an even, desired length.
Book Type 3 – The Sewing Machine Method:
Step 1. Stack the desired number of printer paper sheets neatly in a stack.
Step 2. Use quilt clips to hold the stack of paper neatly in place.
Step 3. Using a sewing machine, sew a straight stitch along the left side of the paper stack.
This will create the binding that holds the book together.
Trim any long threads.
Those are three different methods you can use to make blank books for kids made with plain white printer paper!
Kids can even choose their preferred method and depending on their age and skill, make their own!
These blank books are a clean slate for kids, just ready to be filled with their drawings, stories, and other creations.
You can make a stack of them and give them as a gift to the imaginative kids in your life!
