Learn how to make an ocean Christmas ornament, using a plastic Christmas ball, sand, seashells, and shark teeth.
If you've ever returned from a vacation to the ocean with a bag of seashells, shark teeth, and/or sand, this project is for you! We will make something with them, instead of shoving them into a drawer.
Similar to how we made a snowglobe ornament or a faux flower clear ball ornament, we will make an ocean Christmas ornament, using a clear plastic Christmas ball!
How to Make an Ocean Christmas Ornament
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Supplies Needed:
- Clear Plastic Christmas Ornament
- Sand - make sure you rinse and dry it thoroughly to remove any dust!
- Seashells
- Shark Teeth
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue
- Twine
- Scissors
Step 2: Use a funnel to add sand to the clear ornament.
Before you add any sand to your ornament, be sure to rinse the sand to remove any dust, and let it dry thoroughly.
Learn from my mistake; I didn't clean the sand I used, and after a few shakes, my ornament had a dusty film around the sides, making it hard to see inside!
So, first, CLEAN the sand, let it dry, and then add it to your ornament.
Step 3: Add small seashells to the ornaments.
Add shark teeth if you want to.
Step 4: Glue the metal top onto the ornament.
Before you put the metal top back on the ornament, put hot glue around the neck of the bulb, and then put the metal top on.
Hold it in place until the glue dries.
Step 5: Add twine to the top of the ornament for a hanging string.
Your ocean ornament is finished!
This easy ocean ornament is the perfect way to use up the sand and seashells you saved from a trip to the beach.
Or, you can buy the supplies at a store like the Dollar Tree and make your version that way!
Either way, it's a refreshing reminder of warmer days, and looks beautiful on the Christmas tree!
