Learn how to make DIY mini wooden chalkboards using raw wood chalkboards from the Dollar Tree, and diluted craft paint as DIY wood stain!
Walking through the aisles at the Dollar Tree often reveals a lot of fun craft supplies and projects, especially wood objects and figurines of all shapes and sizes.
The wood is usually raw and looks a little bland and boring, so we're going to do a facelift!
Today we are going to use paint to "stain" mini wooden chalkboards from the Dollar Tree!
Here's how to do it!
How to Make DIY Mini Wooden Chalkboards
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Supplies Needed:
- Mini Wooden Chalkboard
- Paint
- Water
- Container to hold paint
- Foam Brush
- Clean Rag or Paper Towel
Step 2: Squeeze brown paint into two containers.
Step 3: To make one container a darker brown, squeeze a small amount of black into the brown paint.
Stir the brown and black paint together and check the color.
If it's not dark enough, add a bit more black until you've reached your desired shade of brown.
Step 4: Add water to both containers of paint to dilute them.
Stir the water and paint together until well mixed.
Step 5: Use a foam brush to paint the wooden frame with the watered-down paint.
Step 6: Wipe off excess paint with a clean rag or paper towel.
Step 7: Repeat for the other frame and the darker brown color.
Wipe off any excess paint.
There you have it! DIY mini wooden chalkboards that are "stained" with diluted paint.
The paint may lighten a bit as it dries, but the hue should be the same and the wood grain should remain visible through the color.
Turn simple Dollar Tree chalkboards into cute decor pieces by staining the raw wood edges with watered-down acrylic paint.
You can also make DIY chalkboard signs if you want to go that route instead of buying them.
