Learn how to take a Dollar Tree birthday garland and turn it into a beautiful DIY Happy Birthday Banner with twine and wood beads!
The Dollar Tree has lots of birthday decor, but most wouldn't be described as classy or chic.
Recently, I picked up a simple white flag banner with gold letters that spelled HAPPY BIRTHDAY, but it fell short of being as cute as I knew it could be with a few tweaks.
So today, it's getting a facelift as we make a DIY Happy Birthday banner with twine and wood beads!
We love wood beads and use them in a lot of projects like wooden bead ornaments, wood bead and tassel garlands, and a thread-spool rainbow garland among others.
It will help elevate this simple birthday banner to something lovely!
DIY Happy Birthday Banner with Twine and Wood Beads
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Supplies Needed:
- Happy Birthday Banner from Dollar Tree
- Twine
- Wooden Beads
- Scissors
- Packing Tape or other type of tape
Step 2: Punch out the holes in each letter.
Step 3: Decide if you are going to do one long banner with HAPPY BIRTHDAY on one string, or do two banners, one with HAPPY and another with BIRTHDAY on it.
The deciding factor is likely where you are going to hang it.
If you are using a wall, you could use either option.
If you are hanging it up on a mantel like we did, you might not have enough room to do both words on the same string.
We decided to do each word on a different string to fit our mantel better.
Cut two lengths of twine.
Step 4: Tie a knot in one end of the twine.
Step 5: Wrap the other end of the twine in packing tape to make it easier to thread through the holes.
Step 6: Thread letters onto the twine, adding wooden beads in between each letter.
We decided to add two small wooden beads in between each letter in our banners.
Then, we hung them up so HAPPY was above BIRTHDAY on our mantel.
So much cuter than simple white cards on a plain white string!
It's amazing what twine and a handful of wooden beads can do!
