We love book page crafts around here - we've made a book page tassel ornament, a book page garland, a book page wreath, book page trees, and used book pages in cute Easter flowers!
Today, we are going to use book pages to make a rustic book page Christmas tree ornament!
All we need is Mod Podge, book pages, and a clear ball ornament and we can make a beautiful ornament that's Christmas tree-ready!
Here's how to make one.
How to Make a Mod Podge Book Page Christmas Ball Ornament
Step 1. Gather Supplies
Supplies Needed:
- Old Book Pages
- Mod Podge
- Clear Ball Ornament
- Foam Brush and Container
- Twine
- Scissors
Step 2. Rip book pages into strips, and then rip the strips into small pieces.
Our pieces are smaller than 1" squares - maybe ¾" pieces.
Step 3. Brush Mod Podge on the outside of a clear ball ornament.
Step 4. Stick pieces of book pages into the wet Mod Podge.
Let dry.
Step 5. Coat the ball with another layer of Mod Podge, and add more paper pieces.
Let dry.
You want to make sure all parts of the ornament are covered, so if there are still gaps between the paper, you can repeat for another layer of Mod Podge and paper pieces if needed.
Step 6. Once the ornament is completely covered and dry, put the metal hanging piece back into the top of the ball.
You can glue this to the top of the ornament to keep it from coming apart if you want to. (I usually do.)
Step 7. Cut a piece of twine to use as a hanging string for the ornament.
Loop it through the top of the metal and tie a knot in the twine.
Step 8. If you want to add an extra bow of twine around the neck of the ornament, it adds a little visual interest.
Your book page ornament is done!
Isn't it beautiful?!
This process of using Mod Podge and old book pages is the same technique we used to make these cute Mod Podge book page cone trees.
How to Make an Ornament with Old Maps
You can use different types of paper, like this old atlas of maps, to make variations of the book page ornament.
The process is the same. You just use ripped-up pieces of maps instead.
Coat the clear ball in Mod Podge, and add torn pieces of map.
Let dry and do a second coat to cover up any exposed areas.
Add the metal top when it's finished, glue to secure it, and add a twine hanging string and bow.
Two different variations of a book page ornament, depending on the type of book you tear your paper pieces from!
These ornaments made from old book pages would make the perfect gift for the reader in your life.
It could also be a fantastic holiday craft project for a book club or girls' night.
