How to Make Valentine's Day Treat Buddies

Looking for Valentine treats for school? Here is a step by step tutorial of how to make Valentine's Day treat buddies; clip in a treat and you're done!

Materials

  • Felt Balls 20mm felt balls work great.
  • Googly Eyes
  • Colored Paper or Cardstock
  • Wooden Clothespins
  • Scissors, Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Pencil
  • Heart Template Free in the Resource Library!

Instructions

  • Print and cut out the heart-shaped templates from the resource library.
Using the templates, trace hearts onto the pieces of colored card stock and cut out hearts.
You can keep things simple and do one heart per treat buddy, or you can combine the two different-sized hearts.
  • Carefully put two small dots of hot glue onto each felt ball and add googly eyes.
    Let dry.
  • Take a wooden clothes pin and put a dab of hot glue on one end.
  • Add a felt ball head, and hold in place until the glue sets.
Repeat for all of the treat buddies.
  • Decide which colored hearts will pair with which felt ball colors.
I wanted variation so I mixed and matched.
I didn’t want pink with pink or purple with purple etc; I wanted to mix them up.
  • Add a small line of hot glue to the middle of the clothespin.
  • Lay the paper heart on top of the glue line and let it dry.
  • Repeat for all of the clothes pins and hearts.
  • Write a Valentine’s Day message on each heart.
PRO TIP: This step is easier if it’s done before gluing the hearts to the clothespin, but it can be done now as well.
  • You can clip any kind of Valentine’s Day treat into the clothespin!

Notes

  • 20mm felt balls are my favorite size; not too big and not too small!
  • Hot glue the googly eyes onto the felt balls, even if the googly eyes come with adhesive on the back. They need the hot glue to make sure they don't fall off.
  • Have your kids help with these treat buddies! They'll get a kick out of helping make them, and then handing them out at school!
