Materials

  • Felt
  • Circular Object to Trace
  • Disappearing Ink Fabric Marker
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue

Instructions

  • Trace a circle onto the felt with a disappearing ink marker.
    Cut out the circle.
  • Cut the felt circle into a wavy spiral shape, from the outside into the center.
  • Beginning with the center of the spiral, roll the felt into a rosette shape, hot gluing to secure it as you go.
  • Add more glue, and continue to roll the felt spiral all the way up into a rose shape.
Secure the end of the spiral to the underside of the rose.
  • To add a mum center to your felt rose, first use the mini felt mum tutorial to make a small mum flower.
  • Begin gluing the center of the felt spiral to the bottom of the small mum.
  • Glue the spiral of felt around the outside of the rose, rolling it up as you go.
  • Glue the end of the felt spiral to the bottom when you're done rolling, and the felt rose with a mum center is finished!

Notes

  • You can use any type of felt for these felt roses. Cheap craft felt all the way up to high-end wool felt will work as long as it's pliable enough to roll and glue into rosette shapes.
  • These DIY felt rose flowers look lovely as a part of gift wrap and can be glued onto headbands, barrettes, or even made into earrings or rings.
  • If you don't have felt, you can make roses using fabric, ribbon, or paper!
