  • Trim up the edges of the hearts so they are even, and smooth.
  • Put a line of hot glue along the edge of the left half of the heart.
  • Lay a second heart on top of the first.
  • Fold the second heart's right side back (as pictured) so you can apply a line of glue along the half's inside edge.
  • Lay the third heart on top of the stack.
  • Lay the third heart on top of the stack.
  • Draw a line of hot glue along the right edge of the bottom heart.
  • Line the top heart's edge up to the bottom heart's edge, and let the glue hold them together.
  • Use scissors to trim the edges of all sides of the heart to clean it up and make the edges even.
  • Repeat this process for all of the colors of felt hearts you are making.
  • Decide how tall you want the hearts to be, and remove any excess from the dowels if needed.
I broke off the bottom three or four inches from each dowel.
  • Add hot glue to the hole in the wooden base.
  • Slide the dowel into the wooden base and hold it in place until dry.

Notes

  • You can buy felt at craft stores and online retailers. It comes in precut rectangles or on the bolt in the fabric section.
  • Pick whatever colors you like best!
  • You can use this same process to make trees of different shapes. We have made actual winter trees and these hearts. You could try stars, shamrocks, or even Easter eggs.
