DIY Colorful Garland with Spools of Thread and Wooden Beads

Learn how to make a DIY colorful garland with spools of thread and wooden beads in this easy garland tutorial for your mantel!

Materials

  • Wooden Spools of Thread
  • Wooden Beads
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Packing Tape

Instructions

  • Cut a length of twine for your garland.
Tie a loop at one end of the twine.
  • Wrap packing tape around the other end of the twine string to make it easier to thread through the wooden beads and the spools of thread.
  • Add wood beads and spools of thread to the garland.
You can add them in a uniform pattern or random order.
I chose to alternate thread spools and wooden beads but randomly chose the number and sizes of beads each time.
Continue until the garland is done.
  • Tie a loop in the other end of the twine.
Your garland is ready to hang up on your mantel!

Notes

  • Look for vintage spools of thread at thrift stores or online retailers like Etsy or eBay.
  • You can use cotton string, baker's twine, yarn, or embroidery floss if you don't want to use twine (or don't have any.)
  • Use the little notch on the end of the thread spool to hold the end of the thread in place. If the thread spool doesn't have a notch, use a small dab of super glue to secure the end of the thread and keep it from unraveling.
