Sweet Shot Tuesday – 6 Decades of Love

This Father’s Day, I was given the privilege of attending a 60th Wedding Anniversary party for one of my high school girlfriend’s grandparents. As I blended into the woodwork, I observed the 100+ people in attendance as they celebrated the union of two people, 60 years ago, who ultimately brought this entire group of people together.

It all started with them.

This particular shot gets me straight in the heart – it just grabs hold and doesn’t let go. Those hands have weathered 60 years of hardships, blessings, joys and sorrows. How many times have they held hands just like this, as life swirled around them? How many times have they found comfort, refuge, happiness and joy in the palm of the other’s hand?

More times than we could count, I think.

This photo symbolizes 60 years of commitment, through good times and bad. Through it all. They held on and stayed together.

Happy Anniversary. You are an example to all of us who are married – regardless of if we’ve been married a year or 20. I hope to celebrate my 60 year anniversary one day too.
