Since I am in a contemplative mood, I decided to look through the lists of quotes that I have saved on my computer. As an avid quote lover, I have literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of quotes that I’ve collected over the years. They range from everything from love and life to laughter and friendship. I have many favorites; here is one of them.
“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I am both thankful and a little terrified by this artistic, creative road that I am on. If you would have asked me a year ago what I’d be doing right now, I’d have answered “working as an RN.” My four years of college directed me toward a career as a Registered Nurse, and I never thought I’d do anything but that. Well, here I am, on a completely different path. I don’t know what the future holds, and I don’t know where I’ll be in a year. If I made a guess, I’d probably be completely wrong. I guess all I know is that I’m on a journey and I feel like despite the uncertainty, I’m right where I need to be.
If I don’t explore this road and this passion, I will most certainly regret it down the road. If life takes me away from where I am right now, then I know I gave it everything I had, and I can live with no regrets. And if the road I’m on blossoms and leads me to places beyond my wildest dreams, then I will have had the time of my life in the process. So for now, I don’t have to know what is ahead. All I have to do is go forward with the mindset that I’m going to explore, dream and discover.
May each one of you explore, dream and discover today, and may you be open to even your wildest dreams.
