The other night, Matt and I watched the movie “Paul.” Have you seen it? The one about two british comic book lovers who came across the alien Paul, who’s voice is done by Seth Rogen. The movie was not one of my favorites, but the end of the movie took place at Devils Tower!
This was my third time going to the Devils Tower National Monument in my lifetime. The first was on a sunny day when I was maybe 10 or 12? The second was during our 2009 road trip but it rained the whole time so Matt and I looked up at the tower from under an umbrella for 3 minutes and then went back into the car and left. This time, we wanted to explore. We wanted to walk around the base of the monument and see it from all angles.
Devils Tower is actually in the upper eastern corner of Wyoming, nearing Sundance. On our drive there from Rapid City, the sky went from bright blue and clear to a depressing heavy gray. I was getting madder by the minute, thinking that our trip to Devils Tower was going to get rained out again. Thankfully, the rain storm seemed to skirt north of us and we were able to enjoy Devils Tower in the sunshine!
Complete with a Prairie Dog Town on the way to the base of the monument and a walking path around Devils Tower itself, it’s a great place to visit and spend the afternoon.

Great story. As a resident of Aladdin, WY, I’d like to explain the ‘Population 15’ residents. There are in fact only 14-16 (average 15) year-round residents here in Aladdin. There are many ‘Summer’ , ‘Sturgis’ and ‘Holiday’ residents in the surrounding areas. So, the answer is Yes and No for the population.

Hi Christina!
Thank you for your insight on this!! That is so interesting! I come from an area where the population triples in the summer with the tourists, so I know how that is! Our population isn’t 15 in the winter, but it’s much, much smaller than the summer months.
Thank you for reading and for adding in the facts that I didn’t know! 🙂
