Matt and I are liking this Louisiana business! The scenery is green, the leaves still have a tint of red and orange in them, and the people are friendly! We had a great time driving through the bayou today on our way from Lafayette to Houma. We took the scenic byway, on the smaller highway as opposed to the freeway. We raced a blue heron, saw turtles sunning themselves in the ditch-full-of-water/river that separated our road from the other to the east of us. We saw some absolutely delightful little towns that I fantasized about living in while we meandered in and out of fields of sugar cane [I think!?] and southern antebellum houses [estates, more like]. It was beautiful.
We have been trying to connect with a swamp tour but so far have two strikes against us. The first tour’s operators called us back, saying they were on vacation. The second, no call back. We’ll try a third in the morning, but it doesn’t look promising for us to take a bayou tour down here. I am bummed, I’m seriously praying something comes through. We’ll be taking an airboat tour in the Everglades in Florida [crossing my fingers now!], but still… the bayou in Louisiana and the everglades in Florida are two separate things, and I would ideally like to experience them both…
But, we’ll see.
I’m experimenting with a blog layout, trying to find one that pleases my eye. Be patient with me while I search for the ONE.
Blessings and love!
