50 Books in 2012 – November Recap

Between finishing up fall sessions, shooting my second to last wedding of 2012 and getting into the holiday spirit, I didn’t have too much time to read in November.

In November, I added two more books to my completed list, making my 2012 total 62 books.

I read:

This book is by the same author of the Stephanie Plum series, of which I read all 18 books in the series this year. This is a new series from Janet, and I wasn’t sure I’d like it, since I am completely obsessed with the Stephanie Plum series. I’m weird like that; if I love a character and have just spent months reading every book written in the series, I have a hard time liking new books with different characters, especially written by the same author. I am loyal like that.

I didn’t need to worry though. I loved this book too, and Lizzy and Diesel are my new favorite maybe-couple.

Or they will be until there are more books about Lula, Stephanie, Ranger and Joe…

This book is the second book by Alan Brennert, who wrote Moloka’i [which I read earlier this year in August.]

It tells the story of a Korean girl in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s who, in search of personal freedoms, a new adventure, and the hopes of being able to go to school, goes to Hawaii as a picture bride. Basically, a mail order bride for other Korean men who were living and working in Hawaii.

Honolulu tells the story of this picture bride and her life in Hawaii. It was eye opening, incredibly interesting, and fun for me to read about Hawaii and especially Honolulu before it became the tourism mecca that it is today.
